My favourite things RR - Vicky's block

Vicky's block features a lady in the centre surrounded by some pretty ribbon work by Cathy. I worked on the top left corner, shown below. I worked mostly in DMC Perle 8 and 12 which I found more delicate to use than the DMC Perle 5 that I normally embroider with. It will be on it's way to Deanna tomorrow.

My favourite things RR, Cathy's Pines block movin' on!

Cathy's Cowboy block will be on it's way later today to it's next stop on our RR. Here it is after it's visit to my place. I posted before, about a week ago, on it's progress. Now I am finished and I have to say it was fun to do. Brown is definitely not a colour I like much, but Cathy's various brown fabrics were really interesting. She has some lovely Japanese satin, leather look fabric and gorgeous brown heavy lace trim. Before I began stitching I flipped through one of my stitch books and found two stitches that would be perfect - the wheat ear and the fly stitch. I used the wheat ear behind the fence to look like cattle. And the fly stitch looks good on the stacks of wheat.
Below is the fence, the cows and the re-worked trees.A flowery seam and some wagon wheels Stacks of wheat (oats? barley?).

Sandi's Fairy block RR

I'm the last one to work on Sandi's Fairy Block. I've done my job and now the block is heading home. Here's a picture of the finished block and my contribution.
I used a lilac/violet variegated perle #5 for this row of chevron and added beads to match the colour change in the thread.A row of up and down buttonhole with a bullion inbetween.A row of scalloped chain stitch with some straight stitches and beads.I added the "pea pods" to the rick rack. This was a large empty turquoise metallic space which I knew was my job to fill! I pondered a long time over it and finally added a piece of tatting in the "sky", a willow tree and some flowers and fairies. Around most of the edge of this block I did a meandering line of various beads. On my Angel block in this RR, Cathy added a bead chain which I loved. This was a great Round Robin and I had a lot of fun and I learned a lot. Can't wait for another one! This will count for Jan. 5 and 6 Creative Every Day project.

Favourite Things Round Robin

I can hardly believe I've not posted for over a week! Well, to begin with, I've had some nice mail. In the Favourite Things round robin with Crazy Quilt Embellishers I received my own block home and Sandi's fairy block in the mail for me to add my contribution. Another parcel arrived too, with some lovely Needle Necessity and Sassa Lynn threads from Evening Star Designs. I've been wanting to try Sassa Lynn threads for ages because I've loved the look of that thread on other people's work so much. I've also been trying to keep up with the 100 details. So first here's my block finished. I love what the ladies (Sandi, Toni, Daphne, Nicki Lee and Cathy) in my group did.
and here are some close ups of some of the details. I love the icing on this cake and just look at the piping bag, it was from Daphne! The polymer rose on the bottom is particularly sweet, it's sitting on a lovely piece of tatting, one of Nicki Lee's additions.
I thought this was very effective and rich looking. Sandi did this. Here's Sandi's Fairy block as it arrived to me. Here's a nice close up of some Nicki Lee's stump work.

I'm also working on Josh's penguin birthday cake, but I can't post that photo until after the birthday on Saturday.

Favourite Things Round Robin

I've been working on Toni's Geisha block this last while and I love how it's looking. There's some lovely stitching from the ladies before me and it was a pleasure to add to that. This is the whole block with everyone's work. I added the cream dress and the red and black flowers beside it. For the dress I used two strands of a shiny cream rayon thread and did very small chain stitch close together. Check out her shoes! I used some very small bamboo beads that were perfect. The flowers are large bullions with an orange thread with gold going through it, surrounded by black jet beads. For the white flower I used silk ribbon and black beads.

I was going to stop after the white flower, but because there's only one person left in the rotation, I tackled the bottom pale orange section and stacked fan shapes in chain stitch. I decorated a few and left some for Sandi and Toni to do. It's in the mail on it's way to Sandi in California.

Round Robin Favourite Things

On CQEmbellishers I'm taking part in my first RR working on someone else's block! I found it a bit intimidating to start, because it wasn't my block, but I did finally get going! The block belongs to Cathy and it's quite a large block, so I had lots of scope. I loved the fabric, silks, velvet, brocade, and colours she chose, purples, royal blues, pink, deep green, some Asian brocade, black and silver grey. So I tried to keep to those tones. Here's the whole block and some closeups of what I did. It came from Cathy with the circle crochet applique already on.

Ready to send

Just a quick note to say that my Favourite Things RR block is pressed and ready to send to Sandi in Pleasanton California. Before it arrives back in Canada it will have passed through Springfield Ohio, Anaheim California, Plympton Massachusetts, Earlville Illinois and West Ipswich Australia. What a lot of miles!
Added on Monday 28th. Well it's on it's way to Sandi. At the last minute I removed the large pink bead that is the body of the bottom right angel. I thought it would be a bit bulky to go through the measuring thing at the post office. I'll sew it back on again when it comes home. Or....if any of my "Mums" group has something flat that would fit, please add it if you want to.

My favourite things RR

I've joined this round robin on CQEmbellishes. It's my first RR so I have been thinking about it for a few weeks, wondering exactly what my favourite things are that can be worked into a CQ block. Two things that I want to include are cake decorating and flowers. But I kept thinking that there was something else. It suddenly occurred to me when I was working on a seam for the Christmas motif for CQ4Newbies, that Angels are my other favourite things. My Christmas tree is covered in angels, my girls have kept them coming every year for ages! So, I'm hoping that my RR group, the "Mums" (chrysanthemums) will just fill my block with angels, cakes and flowers!

Here's my first little angel on my RR block. I think she needs a halo!

Just for interest's sake I took the bottom photo without my light box. Both were taken in full sun. The box works well. There's a photo of it under "Taking Photos" on July 1.
