Crazyquilters-ca - UTS Stitchalong - Friday

Another bit done on the sandbar, and a picture showing the sandbar from the side. With the seashells and "rocks" it's very three-dimensional.

Crazyquilters-ca - UTS Stitchalong

Our Canadian group of crazy quilters (crazyquilters-ca), under the direction of Rose Anne B. are working on an Under the Sea block. It's a stitchalong and so far we have worked on seaweed and a sandbar. This is my naked block. Some seaweed added, but it needs lots more of everything, thread, ribbons and beads! This is the start of my sandbar, the thread colour works well (Wildflowers) but it may have to come out because my tight stitching is pulling my block out of shape.

ATCs

I came across some ATCs on Flickr and I was intrigued to try them myself. After a bit of a struggle with the corners while finishing them off, I enjoyed making them. I tried two different ways to finish, in the blue ATC I cut the backing larger and folded and stitched it to the front, with the pink I used satin ribbon. Neither way made a neat corner and I've camouflaged the corners with beads and sequins. Is there a simple, neat way to finish?

Framed!

Isn't it just the best feeling when you have finished something and it is finally framed. I made this Under the Sea block for my friend and he did a really nice job framing it with a piece of door frame edging. It will hang in his living room in Florida, a very appropriate home for it!

Under the sea

In between other things I've been working on a block for my friend from Florida. This is the second Under the Sea block and I wanted to make it a bit different than the first one. I had a few requests from him such as a shark, a tiki hut and a treasure chest which I had fun doing. I had a great piece of tropical fabric which went in perfectly. So now it's finished and here it is! You can see the first Under the Sea block by clicking on "under the sea" in the labels on the right.

Under the sea CQ

Finished block Octopus
School of fishes Coral
I've been working on a CQ Under the Sea block. I think it's my favourite so far out of the three that I've completed. The colours - turquoises, blues and aquas are gorgeous together - and the little bits and pieces of beads and charms bring it to life. My son in law was kind enough to take some close up photos.
