All About Angels RR - Wendy's block

Wendy's block after Debbie's and my work.  Debbie worked on and around the silkie.

One little angel

Two little angels

Three little angels

Swirls and roses

Scallops, pearls and sequins
Wendy's Angel block is small and pretty.  It's going to be the cover page for the blocks in her Angel DYB RR that she is also participating in.  What a great idea!  I loved working on it and could have finished the whole block, but I had to leave some room for Joyce and Laurie's work!

Monday Challenge - second week

This past week I finished the tea cosy. I even managed to get the piping braid in neatly too!
I added a little face to the angel. She is ready to be mailed. Her wings are three layers of sparkly white organza ribbon. I drew the pattern on the ribbon, sewed small running stitches on the pattern line, then embroidered blanket stitched over the running stitches very close together and I trimmed very close to the stitching. The Florida part of my holiday wall hanging is finished. I redid the sunset reflection in the water and added a few grasses around the feet of the upper bird just so he doesn't look as if he is floating, but has his feet on the sand. I took out the cross stitch mesh, because my stitching on the cross stitch angel was very uneven and some of the crosses went the wrong way. So this needs to be taken out and redone. I might use a bigger mesh the next time.

CQ Cushion

The crazy quilting is all finished, I just have to make it into a cushion now for my sister's Christmas present.

And here's my latest angel - sequin wings and braids.

Angel ATCs

I traded three of my angel ATCs recently. Here's three lovely new angels for my collection. This one is from Margreet in the Netherlands, she's very mischievous. I love the lace that Margreet used for her dress. This one with her pretty crochet dress and wings is from Annet, also in the Netherlands. And this origami angel is from Carey in San Diego.

Still sidetracked!

I knew if I kept going I would find my way to finish up these little atcs. Instead of cutting the piece of fabric 2 1/2 x 3 1/2, I added about 2" all around and just folded it back (as you can see in the photo below). Next time I will cut it a bit larger so that all the back is covered. I traded this one with Margreet.
I'm adding this on Tuesday. It started out as a piece of crazy quilting big enough to fold and completely cover the back as you can see from the bottom picture. The background fabric is three different shades of cream, and the stitching is a pretty variegated pink and cream perle 5 thread. The beads are silver, and the flowers are pink metallic on a pale pink organza ribbon. I traded this angel with Fat Quarter (Annet).

Getting sidetracked!

I shouldn't be spending so much time on these little ATCs! But they're fast to do (well sort of) and they're fun. I'm kind of taken with angels in general and I've found that this is the perfect subject for me on ATCs. The fun of it is looking for suitable wings, and they can be almost anything that looks right. It's easy to embroider the wings in and they look lovely with beads, but I really like the one I made with the silver leaves, and this one with the mother of pearl is really pretty even though it's not finished yet. (Note: finished now, and photo above is the finished atc). As usual, I'm struggling with the binding/finishing and have yet to find some way that I'm happy with. I did try the applique stitch on the one below, but the layers were too thick.

ATCs

I came across some ATCs on Flickr and I was intrigued to try them myself. After a bit of a struggle with the corners while finishing them off, I enjoyed making them. I tried two different ways to finish, in the blue ATC I cut the backing larger and folded and stitched it to the front, with the pink I used satin ribbon. Neither way made a neat corner and I've camouflaged the corners with beads and sequins. Is there a simple, neat way to finish?

More angels

Can't seem to stop making angels! Here's a very simple one, straight stitches and fly stitches.

My favourite things RR

I've joined this round robin on CQEmbellishes. It's my first RR so I have been thinking about it for a few weeks, wondering exactly what my favourite things are that can be worked into a CQ block. Two things that I want to include are cake decorating and flowers. But I kept thinking that there was something else. It suddenly occurred to me when I was working on a seam for the Christmas motif for CQ4Newbies, that Angels are my other favourite things. My Christmas tree is covered in angels, my girls have kept them coming every year for ages! So, I'm hoping that my RR group, the "Mums" (chrysanthemums) will just fill my block with angels, cakes and flowers!

Here's my first little angel on my RR block. I think she needs a halo!

Just for interest's sake I took the bottom photo without my light box. Both were taken in full sun. The box works well. There's a photo of it under "Taking Photos" on July 1.
