This one is very plain by comparison. It's for the CQI 2010 monthly challenge which will need some space for additional fabric and techniques. I made the fan by the paper piecing technique and appliqued it on. but there must be a much easier way as this took me hours to do. I also didn't know how to finish it off at the bottom. I'm going to look for a small piece of metal jewellery to put over it.

Hi Diane - you sure got that eye movement thing down pat! I must reread what Gerry wrote about it and see if it works for me as well.
Your fan is gorgeous! Love that block as well!
Hugs,
Kerry
Diane,
Both blocks are beautiful! I'm especially excited about the 3Bs one: AND I GET IT FIRST! Sorry I shouted, but the colors and the fairies are so wonderful! Guess I'd better think about what to do for mine.
So you do, Janet! I have to tell you though, I'm not a big fan of butterflies. I'll add them to everyone else's block, but I don't really want them on mine. All the other "b"s are fine though and it'll be fun dreaming them up.
Diane, I must say that these are some of the loveliest naked blocks I've seen in a long time! Your BBB block is just WOW. Why don't you leave the tail of the fan un-done until we study framing techniques? Although it's aimed at silkies & cabochons, there's a possibility that some idea might spark you then! :-) Big hugs, Cathy
Your BB&B block and gorgeous...great job. I must say when I look at your challenge block I see your fan as a FABULOUS hot air balloon sailing over a spring landscape... I can see fences (seams) sheep, cottages etc... just yummy
Diane, I also love your BB&B block -- no I love them both! I'll bet they will turn out fantastic.
hi dianne, I'm looking forward to seeing it in real, I'm sure the photo doesn't do it justice. I haven't put mine together yet, haven't even decided the colours, but this has given me some ideas, thanks so much for sharing.

Diane, Your blocks are both lovely and strikingly unique from one another. I will be looking forward to watching them develop into works of needle art. The light jade tones in the second block make me think oriental thoughts about that fan and the 'hills' surrounding it. It will be interesting to see what direction you take this in. It really might depend on the silkie you choose to add, that will add a lot to the 'story' of the block.
Happy Stitching,
