Catching Up.......

Can't believe that I haven't posted for a month.  Things are busy at my place these days.  My sister Helena and I are taking care of mum, and in between times playing with fabric, decorating cakes and looking after my Etsy shop.

Helena has been very productive and creative making "One of a Kind" selections.  These are selections of fabrics arranged in a way that tells a story, or at least, suggests a title.

Some of my favourite ones are below.  There are a bunch more in my Etsy shop.

Crop Circles

la Piece de la Resistance

Snowstorm

The Heart of the Ocean

Midnight Bloom

Both mum and my youngest grandchild Lauren had birthdays in May.  Mum celebrated her 97th and Lauren her 1st birthday.  Here are some photos of our birthday parties.
Lots of help to blow out the candle!

Elijah helping to serve.

Mum looking good at 97.

Joshie and Jack.  Josh wishing he was old enough to have one too.

"Now that was delicious!"

"Yellow is the perfect colour for me"

I made Lauren a Baby Heirloom Block to celebrate her birth and entered in Crazy Quilts are Quilts Too on Pigtales & Quilts Blog.  It didn't place, but I found that the deadline was good to keep me motivated, and the fact that it was a competition encouraged neater and more creative work!

Happy Birthday Jack!

There's a computer game that my oldest grandson plays called MINECRAFT.  My daughter wanted the cake design be based on the game and to be a surprise for Jack.
The backdrop was made with the colourflow technique, and the figures from gumpaste.

This is the main guy from the game.

And this is a smile of approval from grandson!

And the winner is.....

To celebrate my 500th post on the 27th March, I invited readers to participate in a draw.  In order to qualify for the draw, they were to make a comment on that post.  There were 13, and I gave each of the comments a number from 1 to 13.

The winner will choose one of the One-of-a-kind fabric selections shown on the previous posts, and several more that I will load on below.  After that, the fabric selections  will make the trip to my Etsy shop.

Today is the day to find the winner.  I used Random.org to pick the number, and here is the result:

The 13th comment on the 500th post was

Mary Ann

Congratulations!

and thank you to everyone who participated.  I appreciated all your lovely comments.

More selections......

Another few hours with the fabric and we have these to add to our One of a Kind selections. Helena seems to be in her element on the floor, in front of the patio door to my balcony, playing with my stash.  Today was sunny and the selections she put together just glowed in the sunshine.

Just a reminder, that for a chance to win a one of my "One-of-a-Kind" selections, leave a message on my Wednesday's post. Draw will take place on Sunday 7th April.

Family Time

It's a wonderful thing when you get your three kids, their spouses, and all the grandchildren in the same place at the same time, and to boot.....a great photo of the 7 grands and my nearly 97 year old mum.

From the left, Caleb and Brynn my two French/Canadians, Mum with Lauren;  Jack with his sister Emily, and Josh and Elijah, Lauren's older brothers.

I couldn't get my kids and partners together for a photo,  maybe next time!

PS  Don't miss your chance at one of my special One of a Kind packages of fabrics.  I celebrated my 500th post last Wednesday.  If you leave a message on that post you'll be entered into the draw, to take place next Sunday 7th April.

Still chopping up fabric....

My sister Helena and I are in heaven with all the lovely fabrics.  She's visiting from NY to help take care of Mum who is now living with me.

So while she has been here, pretty well since Boxing Day, we've been surrounded by my boxes and bins of fabric.  And I have to say we've done the odd shopping trip for even more fabric, just so we have a wider choice!!
This is Mah Jong, Helena's latest one.  These one-of-kind special packages of fabric all have a name. You may see four ladies in their kimonos, or you may not!

"Hummingbird"

This and "Hummingbird" both recently sold in my Etsy shop.

She's working on "The Shah" here.  It's always fascinating to see what she creates with a few pieces of fabric.
Special Note

This is my 500th post!

I'm going to have a draw to celebrate.  The prize will be one of our special one-of-a-kind packages.  The winner will choose from a list of "names"  still being compiled.

Just leave a comment and your name will go into the random draw.  Deadline to enter is Sunday 7th April, 5pm Eastern Standard time.

Carribean Kid....

In the last post my sister, Helena, at 2am, was working on making a "mock up" of the fabric and embellishments from one of our latest Special Edition cq block kits.

Of course you would have your own "kid's" picture in the middle, this one is my grandson Elijah.

This one we named "Carribean Kid".
The kit contains 12 pieces of coordinating fabric, lace, beads, sequins, buttons and charms.

The late night bedtimes paid off - we have several Baby Heirloom Crazy Quilted Block kits in my Etsy store.  Check them out.
